During the last several years, there has been a growing interest in China, particularly in the areas of culture and trade. With the Olympics Games taking place in Beijing in August, it’s timely to organize an inaugural event that would emphasize the geography and culture of China. This is a more positive way for the Chinese community to reach out to the greater Twin Cities community and promote mutual understanding and friendship.
A Passage to China （漫游中国）event will be held on May 17, 2008, Saturday, from 10am to 4pm in the central courtyard of Southdale Mall, Edina. Come and celebrate Asian Heritage Month by exploring China. Chinese organizations from around the Twin Cities will participate in teaching about different parts of China. Kids can get a passport and get stamped at each station. They can turn in their completed passport for a prize. There have be local Chinese artists, delicious Chinese food, and cultural performances throughout the day. Children can participate in setting off mock fireworks before dragon dances that will begin each hour.
TAA-MN will host a booth at the event. The activities we will host are traditional Chinese dress for kids and Chinese paper cutting. We invite alumni to volunteer for the event at our booth. You may choose to come at one of the three shifts: 9:30am to noon, noon to 2pm and 2pm to 4:30pm. Please contact TAA-MN if you’d like to volunteer.
